On the 11th February 2025, we had a meeting with Danny Hoyle, Road Safety Officer and PCSO Caroline Pemberton. We shared with him our concerns around traffic at school. Our discussions led to some useful next steps for next term including:-

  • going out in High Vis with senior staff to thank parents for following our Parking Pledge and also ask those who don't to make a difference

  • going out with the PCSO and other Police Officers with speed guns on Ribchester Road. Offenders will be asked to speak with us or receive a ticket!

  • engaging our school community in a poster competition which will be sent to Danny Hoyle and transformed into a banner

  • Danny Hoyle returning to our school on the 21st March and delivering Right Start Training and measuring our Key Stage 2 children for car seats

This year, we have chosen Winston's Wish as our Christmas Charity. This charity supports children who have been bereaved. This morning, we have led Collective Worship to raise awareness and invite children to support us. We have asked children to take home a star and write or draw about someone they would like to remember this Christmas. They should then return it to us at school along with a £1 donation. We will then change their stars to special gold stars to display this Christmas time, we will send 100% of their donation to Winston's Wish. We have been delighted to discover that a very generous donor will double each £1 we make so this is a wonderful opportunity that could make such a difference.

We have added a colouring competition - just for fun as a thank you for supporting us. We will choose some winners in the last week of term!

During our Collective Worship, we signed 'Bringing colour to children's lives this Christmas' and taught it to the school!

Our next action will be to facilitate supporting all our children who many need a little help. We have made a rota so we all have a lunchtime to cover.

Children can pop their name into the daily tins and we will find them and support them in any way we can.

Everybody loves a birthday - right? Well, children do anyway. We thought it would be lovely to send a birthday card to all members of our school community - children, staff and governors. First stop is to raise enough fund to buy over 350 cards so we are going to do this in stages. Look out for a cake sale near you for our first order!

Update!

Over the weekend of 1st/2nd March, our Young Leaders prepared cakes to sell at break on the 3rd March. They raised £100 and birthday cards have now been ordered so we can begin our next project - a great start!

Our Young Leaders joined Police Officers on Thursday afternoon, 4th March 2025. They worked in two teams - one operating the speed gun, and one questioning any drivers who exceeded the speed limit. Children had the opportunity of working in both teams.

They learned a lot about the implications of creating a safer community for everyone as well as engaging articulately and respectfully with a range of community users.

They also realised some of the challenges our police officers faced each day and recognised the hard work and patience they had to have. They also realised it was often chilly work!
