Advent Day
Our learning for Advent Day 2024 was planned around the theme 'Follow the Star - Calm and Bright'.
Themes for the day included: Angel Gabriel's message of Hope, Joseph's message of Peace, The Shepherds' message of Joy, Mary's message of Love & The Gift - Baby Jesus.
Our lessons began with looking at a slide show of multi-cultural and diverse images, comparing and contrasting what we noticed. Our Philosophy for children sessions encouraged questioning, discussions and debates, sharing opinions and developing our oracy skills. Children had the opportunity to write a poem, or descriptive piece of writing based on their provided theme. Each class worked collaboratively on a large scale art project exploring different media and also worked with our Teaching Assistants to carry out different calming activities. Our Lighthouse Group lead worship at the end of the day.

Advent Day 2023
Our learning for Advent Day 2023 was planned around the theme 'Follow the Star'.
Children listened to and learned about the Nativity story and each class had a chosen element to study in greater detail: angels, shepherds, people, wise men. Our lessons included Philosophy for children, questioning, drama, prayer, reflection, art and music. In addition to this, our Teaching Assistants worked with groups of children to carry out a variety of art activities, exploring different media. The day concluded with our Lighthouse Group leading Worship and teaching the whole school about the advent candles and the importance of waiting!
