Some of our Year 6 pupils have begun reading the book Pig Heart Boy by Maloria Blackman. Here are some of their thoughts after reading the first two chapters...

What I like about the story is that it makes
me want to read on and I like how the book
started with the boy drowning and I like how
the blurb is interesting.
Key parts
The boy at the start who was drowning is
called Cameron and he is 13 years old. He
needs a heart transplant. He has a close friend
called Marlon. The school bully is Travis.

Izzy

I like that he is spending time with his friends and he’s
having a good time with them. I also like that his friends
are taking the time to talk and play with him whilst Marlon
also spends time with his other friends.

Ella

I really like how in the first chapter it really leaves it on a hang. It really makes the reader want
to read on and learn much more about this book. I also really like about this book it doesn’t really
give you much information to get off. When your reading it means you have to infer much more
than different books I’ve read before.

Harry

I like that it because it
tells us about the condition he was suffering
from and it shows us how lucky we are. I also
like the scene because it starts in a
suspenseful scene and I like books that start
with suspense. I also like that Cameron’s
friend looks out for him. It shows they are
close. It starts with a fight between the two
friends.

Umair

In this story I like how the boy has lots of friends and how this boy has a
very mysterious character. I think that because he isn’t like any other person
he is different in some kind of way. But I don’t get why he is so angry and
really weak.

Finley

What I like about this book is that it's very
intense and you never know what is going
to happen later on in the book, and I also
like that he’s got a lot of friends but what
confuses me is that I dont know who is
who.   There are lots of characters
speaking at the same time and it's very
confusing.

William

What I like about the Pig Heart Boy is that it starts off dramatic and
then goes into a bit more into detail about the book. I like how the
author has really thought about the stages and made sure that
everything comes in at the perfect timing.

Jack

I like where the author has made the story sound exciting by
adding some short sentences and quite scary words that make it
fun to read instead of a normal story where it is quite
straightforward and a bit boring.
